MPW offers various photography workshops held every day of the week, meaning that you can join us, in some of the most beautiful locations in and amongst the spectacular valleys, hilltop Towns and cities in Tuscany.

These photography tours offer the possibility of visiting and meeting the local Farmers, artists, important gardens and attractions.

We will be meeting at easily reached locations, clearly indicated in the more detailed information found by clicking on the Tuscany Photography Workshop Daily Tabs.

For those who are really just starting out, we offer our well-received, half day, four hours, Beginners photography course.

This fine selection of workshops, balances required theory, with a majority, of practical hands-on instruction and is one of the most enjoyable and lasting ways to learn photography.

Dive in and organise your photography workshop in and around Tuscany's most memorable settings with your own private instructor.

I will provide advice on all film and digital formats and can also provide 35mm and 6x7 film cameras, lenses, tripods & other equipment.

MPW photography workshops are held every day of the week for a minimum of one and a maximum of 4 people. Larger groups can be arranged if participants have independent transport.

Depending on availability, the Beginners Course and the Bespoke Photography Workshops and Tours can be booked on any day of the week.


Photography Tour Arezzo

Street photography during the Sunday Arezzo antiques market

This amazing photography workshop in the region's vibrant little capital, Arezzo, just an hour by train from Florence, is for anyone who wishes to improve their photography skills. I welcome individuals, couples, families, and groups of up to four. A relaxed photo experience with my personal instruction to assist you in creating memorable travel, portrait, landscape, nature, and street images.

First, we'll share a drink at Caffè dei Costanti, Arezzo's oldest and favourite 'locale'. We will explore the city on foot discovering a city rich in art and architecture but mostly free of crowds. After Piazza della Libertà we arrive at the Duomo. Passing through the Fortezza Medicea Park & her Portcullis, we climb up to breathtaking 360° panoramas of the city.

Just below the park is Casa di Petrarca & Palazzo Pretorio, across the adjacent garden, down a stairway entrance of Logge Vasari and into Piazza Grande. Leaving the Pieve, descending Corso Italia we head to the Anfiteatro Romano and Piazza Guido Monaco.

For guests who appreciate the finer qualities of Italian wine, a tour and tasting of the well-respected Renaissance Villa La Ripa can be arranged. During the informative 90-minute tour you will be tasting the top three wines with pecorino cheese, parmesan, bread and their famous olive oil.

Alternatively, guests who wish to concentrate on landscape and travel images of Arezzo and her landmark cathedral we have a selection of notable vantage points, depending on the hour of the day.

Arriving by Train from Firenze or Roma
Exit from the front of the station and cross the roads, walk straight ahead into Piazza Guido Monaco, cross the gardens and continue straight up Via Guido Monaco for 200 m, take a right into Via Cavour, where Caffe dei Costanti is now in front of you on the left.

Arriving by Car:
If you're driving, take the A1 Arezzo exit and follow the signs to Arezzo. Park in Parcheggio Pietri, in Via Giuseppe Pietri, go by foot to the Duomo by way of the mobile stairs, Scale Mobili. Once you have reached the top and the Duomo is on your left, walk straight ahead, through Piazza della Libertà and down Via Andrea Cesalpino. At the fourth street turn right, when you see Vittorio Fossombroni's statue, in front of the Basilica Di San Francesco, into Via Cavour where Caffe dei Costanti is now in front of you on the right.

Street Photography Workshop Cortona

Parco Parterre

Our photography tour of Cortona, originally an Umbrian city, starts by sharing a drink at Ristorante Nessun Dorma in Piazza Signorelli, 24. Once I understand the photographic aims of all the participants, we'll set off on foot, exploring Cortona by taking in notable sights within the Etruscan and Roman stone walls.

Leaving Piazza Signorelli, we pass into Piazza della Republica home to the dominant 12 century Palazzo Comunale and numerous medieval architecture. Strolling along Via Nazionale you will take in all the life, sights and sounds of the town’s main street. On reaching Piazza Garibaldi we are presented with her incredible scenic panoramas of Umbria and Lago di Trasimeno.


We shall return to explore the vast array of lanes and attractions. Including Palazzo Casali, Teatro Signorelli, Piazza Duomo before entering an area known as Croce del Travaglio, at via Dardagno, one of the most characteristic streets within the city walls. Taking into account Cortona has a long list of notable Pallazi, Piazza, streets, Churches and museums dotted around the city we will not be short on options.

At the beginning of golden hour, we shall decide to stay within the walls and create images from one of the numerous vantage points, or alternatively, we’ll head for the Basilica di Santa Margherita and Fortezza Girifalco to experience and record an incredible sunset over the Valdichiana.

Arriving by Train from Rome, Florence & Arezzo
There are two rail stations, both below the town, at Terontola-Cortona or Camucia-Cortona. From either station, a bus runs up the hill, arriving at Piazza Garibaldi just outside the centre. Cortona can also be reached by bus from nearby towns and villages in Tuscany.

Arriving by Car:
If you're driving, take the A1 Valdichiana exit, then turn sharp right signed Perugia. At the roundabout take the first exit signed Cortona (24 km). Enter the Siena-Perugia Superstrada and exit at Cortona-San Lorenzo. Take the SP32 following signs for Cortona. Parcheggio Dello Spirito Santa is located in Via Cesare Battisti and provides convenient free parking and a very welcome escalator that transports you up to Piazza Garibaldi.

Golden Hour Val d'Orcia

During this Landscape and street photography tour, you’ll be shooting at a number of the most iconic locations in Tuscany’s enchanting Val d’Orcia. To begin with, we shall meet and have a welcome drink at Caffè Dante in Via Etruria, San Quirico.

After understanding the photographic aims of the guests, we then choose between Podere Belvedere or Capella Madonna di Vitaleta as the first location to create memorable captures at dawn or dusk, as might be the case.

When we have completed our image creating we return to San Quirico for breakfast. Once ready, we head into the walled town of San Quirico capturing street images in and about the well-preserved squares and medieval alleys. We will take time to appreciate the beautiful Romanesque Collegiata, San Quirico’s cathedral, Palazzo Chigi and the churches of Santa Maria and San Francesco.


The village is blessed with the Horti Leonini gardens, a fine representation of a classic Italian garden and her adjacent park. This tranquil garden, dating back to 1581, with her sublime geometry, often has various art exhibitions, throughout the year, creating further shooting opportunities and is at her very best as light falls towards the end of the day.

Leaving, San Quirico we shall head over to Loc Terrapille, where director Ridley Scott filmed Gladiator and set up for a final landscape photography session of the day.

Arriving by Car from Roma
Take the A1 Chiusi-Chianciano Terme exit and follow the signs towards Chianciano on the SS146. After four kilometres take a left and immediate right signed SS2 Cassia. After a kilometre turn left at the end of the road and then left again after 500m onto the SP40 direction S. Quirico. After 5km's turn right on the SP53 follow the road to the junction with the SR2 and turn right, leading to S.Quirico.

Arriving by Car from Siena:
Take the Cassia SR2 south from Siena to San Quirico.

Arriving by Car from Milan:
Take the A1 Valdichiana exit, follow the signs to Pienza along the SP327 to Torrita di Siena. Take the left fork onto the SP15 at the end of the SP15 turn right onto the SP146 and follow the signs to Pienza and San Quirico.

Val d’Orcia

Golden Hour Photography Tour Val d’Orcia

Golden Hour

This workshop is for those who want to capture Tuscany at its very best and in the finest light available. Before dawn we will be in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, in a preferred location getting full advantage of that cherished sunrise or dusk light, taking your images to the next level.

We shall have a welcome drink at our meeting point at the Piccolomini Caffe in Corso Rossellino, 87 Pienza, then we will set off in good time to arrive and set up at our first location. When the best light is over we return to Pienza and have some breakfast.

Val d'Orcia

The architecture and harmonious proportions of Pienza, widely known as the ‘Ideal City” lends itself as a perfect canvas for some street photography. Having taken in the Cathedral, the town hall we move on to the Piccolomini Palace and Loggia, which has some unique panoramas of the valley, from the delightful hanging gardens.

The road west from Pienza leads to Vitaletta, Belvedere, San Quirico and finally the famous Tuscan Cypresses at Torrenieri where a fine sunset photography session completes the day.

Arriving by Car from Roma:
Take the A1 Chiusi-Chianciano Terme exit and follow the signs to Chianciano on the SS146. Then follow signs to Sant'Albino, Totona and San Biaggio, staying on the SS146 all the way to Pienza.

Arriving by Car from Siena:
Take the SS2 south from Siena to the San Quirico exit, then the SS146.

Arriving by Car from Milan:
Take the A1 Valdichiana exit, follow the signs to Pienza along the SP327 to Torrita di Siena. Take the left fork onto the SP15 at the end of the SP15 turn right onto the SP146 and follow the signs to Pienza.

MPW takes note from a relatively high number of your enquiries where we see that guests often find themselves in the right place but on the wrong day of the week. Reacting positively to this we decided to offer a wide variety of workshops over the weekend.

At MPW the weekend starts on Friday, providing you with the possibility to choose any of our listed weekday workshops, take our Beginners course or arrange a bespoke photography experience suited exactly to your needs and requirements, including collection from your location.

We hope by offering these choices, your chances of attending the right workshop in the right place and time to fit your own schedule in Tuscany, are greatly improved. Depending on availability it is also possible to request a specific workshop of your choice or any of our advertised workshops for any day of the week.


If you don’t see that special place listed like the Crete Senesi or the Chianti and you want to get closer to the locals, their ways and practices or Tuscan nature then just contact us with your requests, requirements and dates we will be happy to create the most flexible itinerary and the most memorable workshop available in Tuscany.
